Charade Still #1 – Mrs. Lampert Meets A “Charming Man”

(At 720 X 480)

In the first scene where Cary Grant meets Audrey Hepburn at the same fancy skiing resort, note the range of color here despite this being only a letterboxed image from the 2002 VCI DVD.  The Criterion Blu-ray surpasses this shot in almost every way, for detail, depth and accurate flesh tones, yet it color is not totally of the same range because the VCI print in three-strip dye-transfer Technicolor and this is one of the shots where the print holds up very well.  The ivory whites here and jet blacks are good for an older DVD, but Criterion’s Blu-ray is finally a match for those aspects.  The textures on the white jacket worn by Sylvie (Dominique Minot) and hair on the fur jacket of Regina Lampert (Hepburn) are finally realized on the Blu-ray.
