In an interesting turn in the home video market, Warner Bros. has decided to take their hit sitcom The New Adventures Of The Old Christine and issue The Complete Third Season set as a website exclusive.  The Julia Louis-Dreyfus show is a hit and she is rightly a primary reason for this, which I cannot say about most sitcoms since the 1980s.  As well, she is funnier than most actors to lead one since that time.  Those unfamiliar with the show can look at our coverage of the previous seasons:

Though I was not as happy wit the second season as the first, this third season is holding steady and might just be a bit funnier, offering 10 half-hour that pick up with our lead falling for someone she almost got fired (Blair Underwood) in a funny twist in the overall storyline, but I don’t want to say anything else that might be a spoiler.  The other thing is that Louis-Dreyfus has grown more into the role and that might not have been the case at first, yet she has the energy like the best comediennes of the past (Lucille Ball, Mary Tyler Moore, Tracy Ullman, Marlo Thomas) to make this work and the show is not bad.  I just wish it could find the next level and get wilder, plus a season should be more than ten shows, but that’s just me.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image has some softness that was to be expected from these custom DVD-Rs, but they have fine color and are only very narrowly different than the first two outright DVD releases.  I was not happy with the Dolby Digital 5.1 mixes on the first two sets and think it was a very smart move to have the episodes in much more balanced Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo.  The combination is as good as the previous releases, so if you are a fan, you will not be disappointed.

However, there are no extras.
