The Pixies and Frank Black have been taking advantage of their catalog and then some by issuing material in every format they can think of.  Besides new vinyl, DVD and CD, they even issued a limited edition SA-CD of one of their albums and now have made two of their popular concert DVDs available as one Blu-ray.  Dubbed Acoustic & Electric Live, they include these DVD releases we previously reviewed at these links:

Though I liked them, my fellow writer is a huge fan and loved them even more, but either way, they are well-done concerts and if you want to see the band in action or learn about them, this is a great place to start.

The 1080i 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image is a little soft in both cases, but offers image quality often that the DVD versions could not.  They are a band whose playing comes across as live and both concerts are more palpable than most we have seen lately, where the artist(s) are just going through the motions.  The DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 mix is very rich for both concerts and is the preferred choice of audio, though the PCM 2.0 Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 are not bad.

Extras include a TT The Bear’s bonus concert and featurette Fly On The Wall.  Then there is the bonus of having two DVD’s worth of material on the space of one Blu-ray, but with better quality.
