My Three Sons – The Second Season, Volume Two (1962/CBS DVD Set)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Episodes: B-

CBS continues to issue half-seasons of the Fred MacMurray hit My Three Sons on DVD in single cases with several DVDs (three here) and that might be good for storage, but does frustrate fans who want whole sets.  However, this Season Two, Volume Two set is not as strong as the first half of the season, though the show is still good.  That equals 6 half-hours per DVD or the last 18 episodes of this season.

Everyone is good here again, but some of the scripts this time are a little weaker and formulaic than the past sets.   Still, the show remains a quality production and was only beginning its amazing hit run.  At this point, the cats had totally grown into their roles and it was up to the makers and network to make sure there was more area to grow in the following seasons and they did.  I always recommend a viewer start at the beginning of the series (we have reviewed all the sets to date on the site) so stick with that, but if you happen to have this set first, there is still some good viewing here.

The 1.33 X 1 black and white image and Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono show their age as they had on the first sets, but you will see some softness and limits despite some of both aspects aging well.  There are no extras this time.
