The Everly Brothers Reunion Concert – Live At The Royal Albert Hall (1983/Eagle DVD)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: B-     Concert: B-

The Everly Brothers remain one of the most successful duos in music history, even after they broke up when they just could not stay together anymore and left a legacy of great hits in their years at Warner Bros. records and especially Cadence Records.  As Hall & Oates passed them up in 1983, they felt the time was right for them to get back together and with a huge fan base, reunited to great acclaim and success at the Royal Albert Hall.  The show was taped and is now on DVD as The Everly Brothers Reunion Concert from Eagle.

Sounding good and delivering decent performances (especially considering the gap in performing), the duo plays:

1)     Claudette

2)     Walk Right Back

3)     Crying In The Rain

4)     Cathy’s Clown

5)     Love Is Strange

6)     MEDLEY: Take A Message To Mary/Maybe Tomorrow

7)     I Wonder If I Care As Much

8)     When Will I Be Loved

9)     Bird Dog

10)  Be-Bop-A-Lula

11)  Barbara Allen

12)  Put My Little Shoes Away

13)  Long Tome Gone

14)  Step It Up & Go

15)  Bye Bye Love

16)  Wake Up Little Suzie

17)  MEDLEY: Devoted To You/Ebony Eyes/Love Hurts

18)  (‘Til) I Kissed You

19)  All I Have To Do Is Dream

20)  Temptation

21)  Lucille

22)  Let It Be Me

It was a good concert, an important concert and one worth revisiting from a duo that deserves to be rediscovered.  I like the Everlys and it would be nice if they and their music found a much0oneeded revival in a sea of junk that passes for music these days.  This DVD is a good start.

The 1.33 X 1 full color, PAL, full frame image has some aliasing errors and softness, but looks pretty good in this NTSC DVD, while the DTS 5.1 mix is may be the best of the mixes here (including Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 Stereo), but the recording shows its age.  Extras include a paper pullout with an essay and tech info, while the DVD adds the vintage featurette Rock ‘N’ Roll Odyssey.
