Tinker Bell & The Great Fairy Rescue (2010/Disney Blu-ray w/DVD)

In their zeal to make Tinker Bell more competitive with
Barbie and the Bratz franchises, Disney has now issued their third
straight-to-Blu-ray-&-DVD computer animated feature and the result is that Tinker Bell & The Great Fairy Rescue
(2010) is more of the same semi-high-quality animation in a tale that is a bit
of a stretch including the fact that it wants to be a prequel of some sort to Peter Pan. It is odd, but holds together just enough as
the flying heroine helps a child distantly connected to the classic tale.
However, unless you are a very young girl, this is almost
inseparable from the previous entries and they were not very memorable to begin
with. This is also child-safe enough,
but far from the best story they could have come up with and it sometimes seems
condescending. The fact that she goes
back to England
is almost unintentionally funny, but the magic is limited here either way.
The 1080p 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image at least
looks really good and the money has been put into this, but it is no better or
worse than the previous releases. The
anamorphically enhanced DVD is not bad for the format either. The DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 48/24 5.1
mix is also good, but nothing special and limited to child audiences. The Dolby Digital 5.1 on the DVD is not bad,
but not as warm or smooth as the Blu-ray’s DTS.
Extras in both formats include Deleted Scenes (ok?), a Music Video and
two activity segments.
