The Superhero Squad Show – Volume 2 (2009/Shout Factory DVD)

Picture: B-     Sound: B-     Extras: C     Episodes: B-

Volume 2 of The Superhero Squad Show picks up where Volume 1 left off, finishing out Season One of the series.  The squad of mini superheroes again sets out on the quest for the Infinity Sword.  The series embodies a more slapstick take on the marvel superhero world, but is well done nevertheless.  The series is by no means canon in terms of superhero mythos, but if you take it for what its worth (an interesting take on classic characters) then it is quite amusing.

The main heroes in this volume are Iron Man, Wolverine, the Hulk, the Silver Surfer, Thor, the Falcon and a few others.  The team strives to protect Super Hero City from the evils of Dr. Doom; while attempting to obtain the Infinity Sword.  This volume expands upon the offerings of Volume 1, but not much in terms of new storylines or otherwise.

This set is slightly shorter than Volume 1 at a total of 6 episodes, but the features on this single disc release are nicer than one would expect.  The picture again is crisp, clean and clear with vivid colors and deep, framing blacks throughout.  The characters seem to pop off the screen with and the visual presentation is free lowing without any hang-ups.  The sound is adequate but nothing thrilling in its stereo track; all in all I would say it gets the job done.

The extras again present an interview, but this time with voice artist Tom Kenny; who plays such voices as Iron Man, Captain America and MODOK.  Less impressing are the character profiles and art gallery, but worth a look.
