Angelic Layer Battle Doll 6 – Inherit The Layer (Animé TV)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C     Episodes: C

After looking at several dozen Animé TV shows, Angelic Layer Battle Doll 6 – Inherit The Layer is the first outright Melodrama.  There are tech touches and the usual style in the softened style of Animé images, but there are dumb moments that are bad humor.  Some of the moments are even disturbing.  Though not a soap opera, the dramatics can get that sappy.

With that said, this is surprisingly forgettable and the few moments of battle seem like filler as if even the makers knew this could not sustain itself on a genre that really does not belong in Animé.  The full screen color image is above average, as is the Dolby Digital 5.1 English and Japanese 2.0 Stereo with Pro Logic surrounds.  The sound design is surprisingly poor either way.  The extras include a commentary from two of the U.S. voice guys, opening and closing credits without text, production artwork and previews for other ADV Animé DVDs.  This is a unique Animé show, but not a god one.  Skip Angelic Layer, even if you inherit a copy.
