First Run
has issued two new single short subjects collection from a new line of
releasing dubbing itself festSelects. Best Gay Shorts, Volume One and Best Gay Shorts, Volume One offer a set
of interesting shorts that are trying to say and/or do something different with
homosexual themes. There is still
nudity, sexual situations and graphic language, but these is not as visually
hardcore releases, though some people might still be shocked by the content.
Gay Shorts, Volume One includes After (about three young
men who like the same young football player), Bedfellows, Curious
Thing, Gayby, Gaysharktank.com, My
Name Is Love (about a sexual encounter that gets rough and goes too
far), Mouse’s Birthday and Steam. Some are too surreal to work, while the ones
with notes are the highlights. Some are
foreign language and include subtitles.
Lesbian Shorts, Volume One includes 25 Random Things I Do…, At
The End Of The Street, Birthday, Parental Guidance, Public
Relations, Swimming, Tech Support, Tools 4 Fools (a satire
of commercials) and You Move Me, all of which are more comic and surreal than the
first set, especially in total. In this
case, I will reserve comment as not to ruin anything.
The various
aspect ratios range from 1.33 X 1 to letterboxed 1.78 X 1 and the transfers are
not bad overall, though the shorts produced on digital (and maybe HD) video do
not look as good as their film counterparts.
All have Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo, though some have volume drops. The only extras on both discs are four
trailers each for other
