LEGO Hero Factory: Savage Planet (2011/Warner Brothers DVD)

Picture: B-     Sound: C     Extras: D     Main Program: C+

The Hero Factory, the place where the bravest hero are made (literally) and created to help anyone in need in the galaxy.  When rookie hero Rocka receives a distress call from a quarantined planet Quatros he investigates, but when he goes missing the rest of the team is sent in.  There, they meet and old adversary, Witch Doctor Aldous who is steals the planet's Quatros cores, the life blood of the planet and causing a planetary meltdown.  Can the heroes stop this power hungry mad man and save an entire planet?

This tie-in with the Lego toy company presents a world where the best and brightest are manufactured and tailored to combat the forces of evil. But when arriving on reserve planet Quatros instead of finding survivors to rescue they find an old adversary, and he is not alone.  Aldous has enslaved the various creatures of planet Quatros and harvesting the planet's life force for his own purposes.  The Heroes must all work together to stop Aldous his creatures and return cores before the entire planet goes nova.

This is a CGI film with Lego like characters, with attachable like armors and weapons.  Their attachments granted them various animal properties, strength, speed, flight or stealth, depending on the needs.  The characters themselves are a mix of rookie heroes and one veteran hero, teaching them that being a hero isn't just about being the best fighter or having the best armor, but working together.  It seemed like a show that was basically made for promoting its wares, but here it is.  Extras include bonus episode Ordeal of Fire.
