Horrible Bosses: Totally Inappropriate Edition is new to Blu-ray and the film is anything but horrible.  In the same vein as films like Office Space, Horrible Bosses highlights some poor schmucks that are just trying to get through the day, but life keeps dragging them down.

The plot is simple as three friends played by the talented Jason Bateman, annoying Jason Sudeikis, and amazing Charlie Day agree to help each other dispose of one another’s psychopathic bosses.  Brilliantly cast the manipulative crazies are played respectively by Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, and Jennifer Aniston.  It is a classic Throw Mama from the Train scenario as the boys take a seemingly ‘simple task’ and run into road block, after road block.  Not that the boys are morons, but it is their ineptitude as murderers that slows them down.  Not knowing the first thing about murder or discreteness the trio bumbles, stumbles, and falls as they try to get the job done.  Even if the bosses are perfectly executed, the film is as the charismatic cast and simple, yet refined plot pulls together to make an overwhelmingly wonderful viewing experience.

As previously mentioned Charlie Day is amazing and for all intents and purposes, he steals the show in Horrible Bosses; but it was on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia where we first fell in love with him.  It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia returns for a Sixth Season on Blu-ray and is a fast technical improvement over previous season releases, though the brand of funny just keeps getting better!

In Season Six we get to see Mac (Rob McElhenney), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Dee (Kaitlin Olson), Charlie (Charlie Day), and Frank (the great Danny DeVito) delve deeper into the rabbit hole of debauchery that is their lives.  The crew of Paddy’s Pub had me hooked from the First Season, but it amazes me how the seasons just keep delivering the same and better quality of comedy.  The cast of Always Sunny is insanely talented and not only act, but they created the series AS WELL AS do the bulk of the writing.  This hands-on approach has most definitely given the series its edge and overwhelmingly exposes the passion the crew has for this show.  The cast even having gone as far as to host live stage shows of their act (refer to Season 5 review for more on this).

In Season 6 we see the crew of Paddy’s Pub tackles topics like gay marriage, the class system (or lack there of), owning a boat, pregnancy (guess who!??!) and many more lude, crude topics that most series wouldn’t dare touch.

That is the brilliance of Always Sunny as it goes where no series has gone before.  The characters are horrible, horrible people with even more horrible ideas AND those horrible ideas turn out even more HORRIBLE than anyone could imagine…did I mention they are horrible?!

The topics are presented like that of South Park (but much less formulaic), satiring society in an inappropriate way to make viewers crawl out of their skin, but at the same time making you think.  On some level I may be giving their satirical abilities too much credit, but on the other hand it is just all too good.

I can’t express in words how WONDERFUL this series is with its oddball, off center humor that boasts of creativity.  The most talented people throughout history were a bit insane and there is no doubt in my mind that the cast of Always Sunny is absolutely bonkers.  I can only hope that the level of greatness they have achieved to date continues and from the little I have seen of Season 7 there is only more greatness to come.

The technical features on Horrible Bosses and Always Sunny: Season 6 are very similar, as they are by no means demo quality but watchable.  They are a vast improvement over DVD, yet lack the crisp edge of other recent Blu-rays.  Always Sunny it is hard to say how much is intended to be gritty as the series has that edge; Horrible Bosses on the other hand should look a bit better.  The picture on both is a 1080p High Definition but Always Sunny is a 1.78 X 1 Widescreen, whereas as Horrible Bosses is 2.40 X 1 both of which being mostly a crisp/clear image that flounders here and there.  Bosses is the better picture of the two with better textures.  The colors are nice, but don’t ‘pop’ as they should and the lighting issues are more than apparent (this lighting issue referring to solely Always Sunny).  The sound on both Horrible Bosses and Always Sunny is a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio that is crisp, clean and clear with dialogue being the focus for both film and series.  There is some use of the surrounds, but neither release is amazing with panning effects.
