Roy Clarke's Last Of The Summer Wine – Vintage 1991 (BBC DVD)

Picture: C     Sound: C-     Extras: D     Episodes: C+

Get ready (again!) for three crazy old coots in the English countryside.  Compo, Foggy and Clegg are back and Compo is madly in love with Nora Betty, but to his disappointment, Nora has a new tenant, Smiler.  As Compo finds himself in the dumps, it's up to his friends to find a way to cheer him up and get him to win Nora's heart in Last Of The Summer Wine 1991

If you have not seen the show or not read our coverage of the endless previous DVDs (is this running longer than MidSomer Murders?), Compo is an old man who has the largest crush on his next door neighbor Nora, the foul tempered old biddy, but to Nora (and the rest of the womenfolk) Compo and company are unemployed nuisances.  Compo constantly joined by his two friends Clegg and Foggy; together they come up with ideas for Compo to impress Nora (as long as it doesn’t require Compo to work).

If I could some this series up in one sentence it would be Grumpy Old Men mixed with the Three Stooges with British accents.  As these old men seize the day, they woo women (driving them crazy), avoid their comments and broomsticks, with each episode they come up with a new idea which ultimately gets them in more trouble than it is worth.

---------------------------------------------------------

Was that Nora Betty Singing?

What is Nora Betty so happy about? Compo wonders if it has anything to do with Smiler.

The 1.33 X 1 picture and lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound are similarly weak to the previous editions issued and reviewed elsewhere on this site, plus there are no extras.
