A&E
continues their remarkable series of extended releases of Major League Baseball
with two separate releases on the San
Francisco Giants 2012 World Series.
One is a Collector’s Edition Box
Set and the other World Series
Champions San Francisco
Giants: The Complete NLCS Game 7! single that is highlighted on the box
set’s Bonus Disc. Only this time, though
DVDs are also available, it is all on Blu-ray!
Fans will
note the team just won the pennant two years ago in an A&E/MLB DVD box we
covered at this link.

The fun
and excitement of this new victory was already developing when pitcher Matt
Cain pitched the perfect game in a 6/12/12 game already issued on DVD which we
covered at this link:

A Blu-ray
version (complete with the same cover, but smaller) is included in the box set,
six more Blu-rays to cover the five games played at full length for the Giants
to win and a bonus DVD disc that includes two NLCS Highlights sections,
Walk-Off Winners, Pitching Highlights, Twenty-Games Hit Streaks and the Giants
Clinch NL West sections.
The Complete NLCS Game 7! is a solid single as these discs
usually are with the whole game not on the Blu-ray box and even more extras
including Giants Clinch NL West again, plus Caught Looking segments, Postseason
Highlights, Pablo Sandoval 3 Home Run Highlights, World Series Last Out &
Celebration and World Series Parade.
Combined,
they leave no stone unturned, are very thorough and capture all the fun and
excitement of the playing and victory the A&E/MLB combination have come to
be known for in a way that is as authentic as any sports releases on home video
today. That it is now all on Blu-ray
makes it all the better and other baseball franchise fans who love home
theaters and home video might just be a bit jealous. Especially the Houston Astros, who lost the
series.
The 720p 1.78
X 1 digital High Definition image transfer on all Blu-rays is an improvement
over 480p standard definition DVDs of the same kind of material, but why it is
not in 1080i or 1080p is odd and strange.
This results in more soft detail lines, more motion blur and other
flaws, yet color is pretty consistent and the programs are shot well. The original TV audio is here expanded into a
DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless mix, while we also get solid alternate
radio coverage in separate Spanish and English broadcasts from The Giants Radio
Network and a fourth radio track in English.
