Rifftrax Live! Jack The Giant Killer (Legend Films DVD)

Picture: D     Sound: D     Extras: C     Main Program: C+

You can again join the former hosts of MST3K Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett as they continue riff on old films dug up from the dungeon, 'Jack the Giant Killer.'  The story of a simple farmer who must rescues a princess, he fight not only giants, but witches, dragon men, monsters and an evil wizard Pendragon. Along the way he is joined by a young boy, drunk Vikings, and an Irish leprechaun!

Mike, Kevin and Bill make fun of old films like no one else around, in a time when films considered colored lens, Claymation were considered as high tech special effects.  As they watch old films, they rifft on how poor costuming, characters, and acting were. They add monologs and dialogs to various scenes making fun at poor one-liners, loop holes, and characterizations.  The often make references to other movies, making fun of stereotypes back then, parodying scenes and turning everything into a joke. This is out in time for the release of Warner’s box office disappointment Jack The Giant Slayer.  Wonder how the comments here might apply to the remake?

If you like nerdy, cheesy humor like MST3K, then look no further.  These former hosts now makes fun of other genres than science fiction, fantasy and make believe, and short films (they must of ran out of sci-fi flicks).  Now they rifft on old films in front of a live audience (you can tell everyone in audience were all MST3K fans), it is almost a little sad to see such a famous hosts from a popular series in their twilight years are reduced to on stage comedy, but it is worth a look.  The picture and sound are rough as expected.  Extras include riffts on the short 'What is nothing', behind the scenes, and a trivia slide show.
