Felix The Cat: The Complete 1958 – 1959 Full Color Series: Golden Anniversary Edition (Classic Media DVD Set)

My most recent encounter with Felix the Cat (prior to this DVD set) was on a cruise ship in which a Felix the Cat slot machine took copious amounts of my money… I guess he has always been mischievous.

Anyhow, this Felix the Cat: The Complete 1958 – 1959 Full Color Series; Golden Anniversary Edition DVD set is quite nice and features 31 episodes of our favorite hairball.  The series has been beautifully remastered and restored, breathing life back into a nearly 55 year old series.

The release has a very serial or theatrical short feel to it as each of the episodes (about 7 minutes each) moves quickly, are very fun, and have a creativity about them that is not often seen today.

Felix is joined by a zany cast of characters including but not limited to Poindexter and Felix’s arch nemesis The Professor.  Felix still has his bag of tricks (literally it is a bag of tricks) and he is bringing them all with him for this 31 episode release on DVD.

The set is now available and features such episodes as Felix in Egypt, Felix Baby Sits, The magic Bag, The Invisible Professor, Abominable Snowman, Stone Making Machine, Felix’s Gold, Friday the 13th, The Money Tree, The Flying Saucer, and many more.

The technical features are nice, but remember even remastered the series is 50 plus years old.  The picture demonstrates bright colors and dark inky blacks.  Some dirt and debris does remain , along with flickering; but nothing overly distracting.  The sound is a simple Dolby Digital Mono that isn’t fantastic but is not distorted and gets the job done.

Three short extras are available on this set and include the following:

Original 1920’S Feline Follies Film Short

Interview with John Canemaker [a Felix the Cat Historian]

Archival Promo Reel
