The Good Wife: Season 4 (2012 – 2013/CBS DVD Set)

Picture: B-     Sound: B-     Extras: A     Episodes: B+

The Good Wife continues to be enough of a ratings success that here we are at Season 4 and the crisis continue (here come the spoilers, so start with the debut season before reading this one) as Will returns from his suspension, things are hardly joyous with Lockhart & Gardner is in a 60 million dollar debt.  As Alicia moves up to partnership status, Peter, her husband and Eli run for governor as they become more involved in a political smear campaign, but they are not the only ones in trouble.  Kalinda must face the husband she left, and while Cary has returned to Lockhart & Gardner feels abused and contemplates to start his own law firm.  It a season of political scandals, cases, investigations and secrets, the price and means to power will test the limits of the law, and person's boundaries and morals.

It is also a major season of change as Alicia move up to a higher position of power she contemplates is it really worth leaving friends and her morals behind.  As Lockhart & Gardner struggle to gain out of debt, they become more willing to bend even break a few laws to settle their cases.  While everyone wants to move up, but there is not enough money, and not everyone will make it.  Kalinda finally faces her past abusive husband who temps her back with angry and violent lust and sex.  While Cary feels underused and underpaid with the rest of the 4th year associates, contemplates to leave, steal Alicia, and good portion of Lockhart & Gardner's top clients.

This is a great series if you like courtroom cases mixed with political scandals, of high powered lawyers, the rich and politically corrupt.  The courtroom cases are interesting facing modern question and problems from infidelity, homosexual rights, to corporate corruptions and espionage.  While there are morally good and bad cases, winning a good case does not off set for winning a bad case.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image and lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 are consistently good for a DVD set and the set plays back well throughout.  Extras include tons of deleted scenes, seat of power, standards & practices, ties that bind, and evolution of the Good Wife.
