Delivery Man (2013/DreamWorks Pictures/Touchstone Blu-ray)

Picture: A Sound: A Extras: B Film: B

Vince Vaughn stars as David Wozniak in Delivery Man - a unique and heartfelt comedy/drama about an in debt underachiever who discovers he has 533 biological children on a donation he made 20 years earlier under the code name Starbuck. If David didn't have enough problems he gets rejected by his pregnant girlfriend Emma (Colbie Smulders), owes $80,000 to the mob, and is struggling at his job at his father's meat shop and finally hit with a lawsuit from 142 of the 533 twenty-somethings who want to know the identity of the donor.

David discovers that they all of his biological children are very unique and different. One is a basketball player, another is a lifeguard, a struggling actor, a drug addict, a handicapped boy, a homosexual, and the list goes on and on. As he starts to meet them, he discovers a change within himself and starts to patch up his relationship with Emma but doesn't tell her about his secret.

His lawyer friend Brett (Chris Pratt) convinces him that the best thing to do is remain anonymous until they can make as much money as possible. Being a father of four children himself, Brett serves as a great comedic sidekick throughout the film but becomes a powerful figure when he stands up for him in court by saying that he the state has to honor his anonymity clause for without it, he would not be able to have had that many children in the first place. David becomes in many ways a guardian angel to his children, looking after them but never telling them exactly who he is. Does he come clean about his identity, father a real child, risk it all, and win the girl? You'll have to find out by watching!

The 1080p high definition (2:40 X 1) transfer is crisp and beautiful throughout. The film was shot in Manhattan and New York and you get to see some very beautiful shots. As for the audio, the English DTS- HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 mix is flawless and the best sonic choice for playback. Also on the disc are English DTS 2.0 Dolby Digital, French, and Spanish 5.1 lossy Dolby Digital Language tracks.

The film is actually a remake of the 2011 French- Canadian film Starbuck which was also directed by Ken Scott, reviewed elsewhere on this site. Though I have not seen it, many other critics have come forward in saying that Delivery Man suffers in comparison. I think by no means is Delivery Man a bad movie. It is funny, dramatic, and beautifully shot.

Extras include Building Family where you can explore the challenges and fun of creating a modern family and learn how the 142 young actors cast as biological siblings bonded during and after the production. Vince Vaughn: Off the Cuff highlights Vince Vaughn's improv on set. Also included are bloopers and deleted scenes.
