The FBI - The Complete Seventh Season (1971 - 1972/Warner Archive DVD Set)

Picture: B Sound: C Extras: D Episodes: C

PLEASE NOTE: The FBI is now only available from Warner Bros. through their Warner Archive series and can be ordered from the link below.

This six disc, 28 episode collection of the acclaimed 1960s/1970s drama series The FBI explodes onto DVD in this nice package by Warner Bros. The show centers around intrepid FBI agents that take on the domestic war on crime after the cooling down of the Cold War and the Culture War. Starring Efrem Zimbalist Jr. (who sadly just passed away as of this posting) as Inspector Lewis Erskine, Philip Abbott as Arthur Ward - Assistant Director to F.B.I. chief J. Edgar Hoover, and William Reynolds - who played Special Agent John Colby until 1973. The series was renowned for being an authentic re-telling of or fictional accounts of actual F.B.I. cases with of course fictitious characters carrying the story.

Whether it's a suburban salesman roiling with self loathing who plans the perfect crime (Bradford Dillman) and doesn't care who he crushes in the process (Clu Gulager), a crushed lumber merchant (John Colicos) with a fail-proof kidnap cache or a syndicate-raised hit man with the heart of an Angel (Martin Sheen himself!), the intrepid professionals of the bureau are on the case to bring these criminals to justice!

If you are a fan of crime drama television then I'm sure this show will be a treat for you. It was definitely a precursor to CSI and other shows currently seen on primetime television. This season was the first I had seen of the show and while I won't dismiss it, the show really isn't my kind of thing. It's definitely dated and very heavy on meaty dialogue and drama but high on production value.

Disc One features the episodes Death on Sunday, Recurring Nightmare, The Last Job and The Deadly Gift. Disc Two features Dynasty of Hate, The Mastermind: Parts One and Two, and the Watch Dog.

Disc Three is The Game of Terror, End of A Hero, Superstition Rock, and The Minerva Tapes. Disc Four features Bitter Harbor, The Recruiter, The Buyer, and A Second Life.

Disc Five features The Break-Up, Judas Coat, The Hunters, Arrangement with Terror, and The Set-Up. Disc Six finishes off the set with The Test, The Corruptor, The Deadly Species, and Escape to Nowhere.

Cameos for the season feature Lindsay Wagner, Mark Hamill, Dabney Coleman, Stefanie Powers, and Vic Tayback!

I gave the picture and sound a low rating because while they accurate I'm sure to the original broadcast, they are lossy Dolby Digital Mono tracks and caught in standard definition with a 4 X 3/1.33 aspect ratio.

While total running time for the series is 1,300 minutes, there are no additional special features on this release.
