Rawhide: The Seventh Season Volume 1 + 2 + The Eighth and Final Season (1964 - 1966/CBS DVD sets)

Picture: B Sound: C Extras: D Episodes: B+

Rollin! Rollin! Rollin! Saddle up for the Golden Globe nominated series Rawhide on DVD! Starring none other than The Man With No Name himself - the legendary Clint Eastwood in his breakout role as Rowdy Yates and also starring Eric Fleming as trail boss Gil Favor!

CBS brings us the final seasons of these great editions of the classic show that is great for any Western or Classic Television fan! Each volume spans four discs and is packed with hour-long episodes, each featuring a life lesson, confrontations, and many a cameo from an old face you can't help but recognize. The only downfall to this release is that there aren't any extras - I would have enjoyed at least a retrospective documentary from the creators or maybe even Eastwood himself.

The transfers on these discs are high quality for DVD and are black and white, preserving the original 4 X 3/1.33 X 1 black and white aspect ratio of the original broadcasts. The audio is the dreaded, lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 English Mono, which is adequate but inferior compared to more recent releases. English subtitles are also available on the discs for the deaf and hard of hearing.

The airdates of these three volumes range between 1964 to 1965, where the show reached its 217
th episode - making it the fifth longest running American television Western show of all time, exceeded only by Wagon Train, The Virginian, Bonanza and Gunsmoke.

Special Guest stars on this volume are Bruce Dern, Rip Torn, Cesar Romero, Charles Bronson, and Rory Calhoun.

If you are a fan of this series then these releases are definitely worth checking out! Nothing beats classic television in my book and its great to see Clint Eastwood take some names and herd some cattle. Yee - haw!
