Rawhide: The Seventh Season Volume 1 + 2 + The Eighth and Final Season (1964 - 1966/CBS DVD sets)

Picture: B Sound: C Extras: D Episodes: B+

Rollin! Rollin! Rollin! Saddle up for the Golden Globe nominated series Rawhide on DVD! Starring none other than The Man With No Name himself - the legendary Clint Eastwood in his breakout role as Rowdy Yates and also starring Eric Fleming as trail boss Gil Favor!

CBS brings us the final seasons of these great editions of the classic show that is great for any Western or Classic Television fan! Each volume spans four discs and is packed with hour-long episodes, each featuring a life lesson, confrontations, and many a cameo from an old face you can't help but recognize. The only downfall to this release is that there aren't any extras - I would have enjoyed at least a retrospective documentary from the creators or maybe even Eastwood himself.

The transfers on these discs are high quality for DVD and are black and white, preserving the original 4 X 3/1.33 X 1 black and white aspect ratio of the original broadcasts. The audio is the dreaded, lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 English Mono, which is adequate but inferior compared to more recent releases. English subtitles are also available on the discs for the deaf and hard of hearing.

The airdates of these three volumes range between 1964 to 1965, where the show reached its 217
th episode - making it the fifth longest running American television Western show of all time, exceeded only by Wagon Train, The Virginian, Bonanza and Gunsmoke.

Rawhide - Seventh Season, Volume One (Fifteen Episodes)

Episodes on this volume are The Race, The Enormous Fist, Piney, The Lost Herd, A Man Called Mushy, Canliss, Damon's Road (Parts One & Two), The Backshooter, Corporal Dasovik, The Photographer, No Dogs or Drovers, The Meeting, The Book, and Josh.

Special guest stars on this volume are Dean Martin, Fritz Weaver, Barbara Eden, Slim Pickens, Gavin MacLeod, and Harry Dean Stanton.

Rawhide - Seventh Season, Volume Two (Fifteen Episodes)

Episodes on this volume are A Time For Waiting, Moment in the Sun, Texas Fever, Blood Harvest, The Violent Land, The Winter Solider, Prairie Fire, Retreat, The Empty Sleeve, The Last Order, Mrs. Harmon, The Calf Women, The Spanish Camp, El Hombre Bravo, and The Gray Rock Hotel.

Special guest stars in this volume are Robert Blake, Brock Peters, and Steven Hill.

Rawhide - The Eighth and Final Season (13 Episodes)

Episodes on this volume are Encounter at Boot Hill, Ride a Crooked Mile, Six Weeks To Bent Fork, Walk Into Terror, Escort to Doom, Hostage for Hanging, The Vasquez Woman, Clash At Broken Buff, The Pursuit, Duel at Daybreak, Brush War at Buford, Testing Post, and the final episode Cross At White Feather.

Special Guest stars on this volume are Bruce Dern, Rip Torn, Cesar Romero, Charles Bronson, and Rory Calhoun.

If you are a fan of this series then these releases are definitely worth checking out! Nothing beats classic television in my book and its great to see Clint Eastwood take some names and herd some cattle. Yee - haw!
