Adventure Time: Princess Day (2014/Cartoon Network/Warner DVD)

Picture: B Sound: B Extras: C- Main Program: B

Adventure Time, for those of you are aren't aware is an offbeat animated series on Cartoon Network created by Pendleton Ward and produced by Frederator Studios. The show is based on an original animated short that aired on Frederator's Random! Cartoons show and won an Annie Award for the Best Animated Short Subject of 2009. The series is about a boy named Finn and a twenty-eight year-old, magical dog named Jake who encounter many strange adventures in the Land of Ooo. The show has a sense of humor that isn't for everyone - it's definitely offbeat and silly but with some intelligence behind it. I wouldn't necessarily say that its strictly for kids but they will enjoy it.

This disc captures Princess Day, which is the fourteen episode of the sixth season along with fifteen other episodes from the hit show. Total running time for this release is an impressive 176 minutes - which isn't bad considering that this is a single disc release!

Episodes include:

  1. Princess Day

  2. Princess Potluck

  3. Bad Little Boy

  4. Candy Streets

  5. Jake Suit

  6. The Party's Over Isla De Senorita

  7. The Box Prince

  8. Rattleballs

  9. Love Games

  10. Bad Timing

  11. Princess Mother Wife

  12. Hot to the Touch

  13. Reign of Gunters

  14. Beautopia

  15. Her Parents

  16. Loyalty To The King

The picture and sound quality are great for DVD which presents the animation in anamorphically enhanced, standard definition 16 X 9/1.78 X 1 aspect ratio and a lossy Dolby Digital soundtrack. I'm sure the Blu-ray versions (as reviewed elsewhere on this site) sound and look a little better for the die hard fan but this edition will do fine for a casual viewer.

The only special feature is Little Did You Know.
