Deadbeat: Season One (2014/Lionsgate DVD)

Picture: B- Sound: C Extras: C Episodes: A-

Kevin is a supernatural medium and with his best friend is Roofie (also his drug dealer) for the right price, they can help get rid of ghosts to move towards the afterlife. His only problem, rival and object of affection is the beautiful celebrity medium Camomile White, whom he finds out to be a total fake and con artist. And as Kevin and Camomille continue to dance around each other, when Camomille finds out Kevin is the real deal, she'll do anything to make him look like a fake medium and to keep him proving she is the fake one. Kevin is your average New York white guy, but with one supernatural talent, he can hear, see, and talk to ghosts.

To get rid of ghosts bothering him he must help them finish their unfinished business to they are able to move on. More often than not, the ghosts have hilarious last requests or conditions that Kevin must help them complete. His main problem is his nemesis Camomille who is beautiful, rich, famous and a fake ...everything he is not. Kevin is helplessly infatuated with Camomille, he doesn't get Camomille only sees him as a threat and rival, and believes that she is only playing hard to get. Often though Kevin saves Camomille from the ghost's wrath, but afterwards Camomille always then steals the credit for getting rid of the ghosts (even thought she doesn't believe in them).

This was a comical series and funny to watch how an under paid and over weight medium gets to deals with ghosts and go after the girl of his dreams (whom hates him). More often the character is more friends with the ghosts than real life people. Sounds like a variant of the odd British crime comedy Randall & Hopkirk, Deceased. We'll see how this one goes.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 looks as good as it can for the format, but the lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 mixes are a bit on the weak side. Extras include digital UV, What is Deadbeat? featurette, and characters featurette.
