Golden Time: Collection 1 (2013/Section 23/Sentai Blu-ray)

Picture: A Sound: B+ Extras: C- Episodes: B+

Tada Banri was looking forward to starting over his life in Tokyo, but the first person he runs into is Mitsuo and his childhood girlfriend, Kaga Kouko, a beautiful but eccentric rich girl who is self proclaimed to be the future wife of Mitsuo (but he doesn't feel the same). After being rejected and dumped by Mitsuo, she switches her eyes to Banri. Only thing about Banri's past ...is he has amnesia, but when he starts remembering his past things get a bit complex in Golden Time: Collection 1 (2013).

After a certain incident, Banri was so emotionally traumatized he was hospitalized and end up forgetting his past, family, friends ...everything. After entering college he befriends the enigmatic Kouko and the kind Linda-sempai. While Kouko is is a fireball of emotions and public displays of affections, her actions have always ended up in rejection, but Banri sees pass all that and see her true nature, that she is just really straight forward and honest. He becomes her emotional support and later her boyfriend. Linda on the other hand, has been watching over Banri, but truth is she really Banri's childhood friend, but she hides this fact from him and distances herself from him because she is afraid to hurt him again. Things get a complex for Banri when he starts dating Kouko and his memories start returning, and he remembers Linda and he that he has feelings for her.

This series is full of drama, romance and comedy; drama in the main characters personalities, romance between their love lives, and the comedy of college social life. It makes fun of various college life situations (including all the crazy clubs and parties), but then also has the sweet innocent love versus lost love. Only complaint about this series is they should of released the series complete instead of breaking it into Collections 1 & 2, but maybe we'll see that later?

The 1080p 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image is another top rate set of transfers from Sentai, far outdoing anything you'd see on DVD with depth and detail we've come to expect from them, while the lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 2.0 Stereo mix is warm, rich and has great Pro Logic surrounds. Extras include clean opening and closing animations and trailers.
