Psychic Detective Yakumo: Complete Collection (2010/Section 23/Sentai Blu-ray)

Picture: B Sound: C+ Extras: C- Episodes: B+

Haruka was just a regular college girl until she and her friends visited a haunted house on a dare. Whomever enters the house is said to be cursed and will meet horrible ends, but when it does really happens, her only hope of removing the curse is Yakamo. Yakamo was born with one red eye which allows him to see, talk and speak with ghosts and spirits of the dead. Now she and Yakamo team up together to solve mysteries from beyond the grave in Psychic Detective Yakumo: Complete Collection (2010).

Yakamo is therefore, also a medium for the dead, he can see, talk and listen to ghost. Only downside is his red demon eye. Because of it, all his life Yakamo has been treated as social outcast, that others see him as a freak, but only Haruka accepts him as a friend after first meeting him. Hakara joins team Yakamo as he helps police detective Goto solve various cold cases (and literally dead cases). Goto is a hard boiled cop who is given the short end of the police stick with paranormal cases which no one can solve, but even when he solves them his superiors will never give any credit because the officially government doesn't admit the existence of ghosts (but as long as he gets results they'll keep him around). Yakamo, Haruka and Mr. Goto help the ghosts to either move one, finish their unresolved business or stop them from killing again, but can Yakamo hide his own darkness from inside his heart?

This was a paranormal anime murder mystery series. The series is basically says ghost are remnants of strong emotions with unfinished business. While the series is about ghosts and murders, it also has a more comical side with the relationship between all too serious psychic boy and one over-optimistic girl.

The 1080p 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image is a solid presentation, pretty consistent between episodes, if not stunning, while the lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 2.0 Stereo mix lacks Pro Logic surrounds, can be uneven more often than expected, but hangs ion there. Extras include clean opening and closing animations and trailers.
