Afterlife: Season Two (2014/BBC DVD Set)

Picture: B Sound: C Extras: C Episodes: B-

Afterlife is a British supernatural horror series that follows the activities of a psychic medium who appears to have the ability to communicate with the spirits of the dead.

The main characters of the series are the psychic, Alison Mundy (played by Lesley Sharp) and the academic who becomes involved with her due to his skeptical interest in the paranormal, Dr. Robert Bridge (Andrew Lincoln also known as Rick Grimes from AMC's The Walking Dead). Set in Bristol, each of the six one-hour episodes of the first series sees Alison become involved in the appearance of a spirit and attempting to discover why it has come back to haunt the living.

In Season Two, as Alison Mundy struggles to recover from a near fatal séance, she becomes more determined than ever to help the living heal from relationships torn apart by death. Shaken by a heart-stopping encounter with his dead son, former skeptic Robert Bridge (Lincoln) turns to Alison for help in making sense of life. But the gifted psychic is suddenly missing in action and becomes face to face with a ghost from her past! Can she confront the hostile spirit AND maintain her sanity?

The eight episode second season includes the episodes Roadside Bouquets, The Rat Man, Lullaby, Your Hand In Mine, Mirrorball, Mind The Bugs Don't Bite, Things Forgotten, and A Name Written in Water.

The show is miles better than Supernatural and some pretty interesting characters and special effects that put it above most shows over the same caliber. For this edition, the presentation is in standard definition with an anamorphically enhanced 178 X 1 aspect ratio and a lossy stereo Dolby Digital 2.0 track. English SDH are also available on the disc, which runs 370 minutes in length.

Extras include a Behind the Scenes documentary: Bringing The Dead To Life: a look at what it takes to create the chill.
