Gunsmoke: The Tenth Season: Volume 1 + 2 (1964 - 1965/CBS DVD Sets)

Picture: B Sound: B Extras: D Episodes: B

Yeehaw! The classic western series has been captured again on DVD in this highly collectible DVD set. Much like Bonanza and Rawhide, Gunsmoke is classic television that vividly captures the wild society of the West Frontier making us all wish we were Cowboys with six shooters. The massive show ran for a whopping twenty seasons so this really only gets us to the half way point! This season spans two separate DVD volume releases (sold separately) and includes episodes aired from 1964-1965.

Gunsmoke: The Tenth Season - Volume 1 rides into town packin' for action in this five-disc DVD collection featuring 18 fast-paced episodes of one of TV's longest-running and most entertaining series set against the rough-and-tumble edge of the Western frontier. Starring James Arness as straight-shooting United States Marshal Matt Dillon, the residents of Dodge City could rest easy knowing that law was the order of the day against shady fugitives, a grudge-carrying cavalry sergeant or the occasional lovesick lovely. Also starring Amanda Blake as the whip-smart saloon keeper Miss Kitty, Milburn Stone as reliable medic Doc Adams, Ken Curtis as lovable deputy Festus Haggen and Burt Reynolds as half-Comanche blacksmith Quint Asper, the multi-Emmy Award-winning Gunsmoke stands as a vividly absorbing, authentic portrayal of a growing nation and an expanding frontier.

Then, Gunsmoke: The Tenth Season - Volume 2 continues to blaze new trails and tales of the Old West, bringing all the action home on the range with 18 episodes in a five-disc, digitally remastered set. Starring two-time Emmy Award nominee James Arness as U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon, and an Emmy-laden supporting cast including Amanda Blake as sharp-witted saloon keeper Miss Kitty and Milburn Stone as the prickly edged Doc Adams, Dodge City distinguished itself as an outpost of safety and sanity on the rough-and-tumble frontier. But when deceptive carnies ride into town, a stagecoach hijacking endangers a friend, and a would-be bank robber puts a baby in the line of fire, it's up to Dillon and company to find the truth and restore order to a town where anything can happen - and usually does. Welcome back to Dodge, home to one of television's longest-running, best-loved western ensembles.

The 4:3/1.33 X 1 full frame black and white standard definition image on the discs are at a high standard for the DVD format and improves upon the original broadcast. The sound is captured in lossy 2.0 Dolby Digital Mono tracks. Subtitles are also available.

Run time for Volume 1 is 15 hours and 29 minutes, while the run time for Volume 2 is 15 hours and 30 minutes
