Camp Blood: First Slaughter (2014/MVD Visual DVD)

Picture: C Sound: C Extras: D Film: D

If you were to go to K-Mart and purchase a Halloween mask, some fake blood, and were able to find a few teenagers to be in a movie - you can make this film too. Truly defining backyard filmmaking is Camp Blood: First Slaughter. While not really innovative or particularly well made, the film succeeds with cheesy gags and a few candid performances. Though its riff on Friday The 13th is a little too literal, it's almost a wonder that this movie got released on home video. However, this is the third movie in the low budget franchise and employs almost every tired gimmick there is: found footage, not so great looking special effects, and a generic killer in a clown mask as the threat.

A group of students on a class assignment travel to the infamous Camp Blood woods in the hopes of debunking a local legend. Despite warnings from locals, they continue on and find out that the Camp Blood Killer may be more than simply myth. Real terror awaits, and this assignment could be their last!

The 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen standard definition presentation captures the film in low quality as it was filmed with the color saturation lacking and some downright distracting chromatic aberration in the outdoor scenes. As for the audio, the lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track is similarly on the cheap with some scenes having higher music levels than audio.

No extras are on the disc.
