The Prince (2014/Lionsgate Blu-ray)

Picture: A Sound: B Extras: A Film: B-

After Paul's daughter goes missing, he begins to search and track down clues and those responsible for his daughter Beth's disappearance. His journey takes him to the criminal underworld, of drugs, prostitution and violence, but in order to find his daughter (Gia Mantegna), he'll have to use the skills of his past life, that he was once a former unstoppable hitman called 'The Prince'. When a former nemesis Omar (Bruce Willis) learns that Paul is alive and well, no way is he letting him or his daughter walk out alive in Brian Miller's The Prince (2014).

Paul (Jason Patric) is now a mechanic, obviously has a mysterious, dark past, which he is forced to confront when he also discovers his daughter is doing drugs, contributing to why she might be gone. He soon realizes he'll have to fight the entire mafia-like entity that grabbed her if he is to rescue his daughter. His legend and reputation proceeds him, he was once known as the 'Prince' of the underworld, that where ever he went hell was not far behind him. Soon, as his old rivals find out he is alive and well, they call in all the chips to settle old scores since the day 'the Prince' disappeared 20 years ago.

At first I thought it was going to be another kidnapping movie with the father as some ex-military or special agent training (like Steven Segal's Under Siege or Liam Neeson's Taken). but turns out that it's a bad guy who tries to turn over a new leaf. When a man's daughter is threaten or taken, it seem to be any amount of violence is justified, and when the law isn't enough it is time to kick someone's ass.

The 1080p 2.35 X 1 digital High Definition image looks great for a digital shoot, with few flaws, but the DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) lossless 5.1 mix has silent moments with dialogue that is limited a few times, so it is not as impressive. Extras include commentary, extended scenes, behind the scenes, interviews and trailers.
