Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds,
to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one
has gone before.
One
of the best TCV series' finales of all Science Fiction comes the
Blu-ray release of All Good Things derived from the expression
All good things must come to an end, a phrase used by the
character "Q" during the episode itself. In what many
consider the best Star Trek series aside from the Original Series,
The Next Generation is a milestone in Sci-Fi television and
has some truly breathtaking special effects, makeup, and a cast of
extraordinary talent. This two-part finale is very interesting
because it shows great range in the actors to portray their
characters in different time periods.
Star
Trek: The Next Generation stars Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes,
LeVar Burton, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Marina
Sirtis, Wil Wheaton, Denise Crosby, Diana Muldaur, and Whoopi
Goldberg (usually uncredited) to name a few.
Capt.
Jean-Luc Picard inexplicably finds his mind jumping between the
present (Stardate 47988) and the past just prior to the USS
Enterprise-D's first mission six years earlier at Farpoint Station
and over twenty-five years into the future, where an aged Picard has
retired to the family vineyard in Labarre, France. These jumps occur
without warning, and the resulting discontinuity in Picard's behavior
frequently leaves him and those around him confused.
In
the present, Picard is ordered to take the Enterprise to the edge of
the Romulan Neutral Zone to investigate a spatial anomaly. In the
future, he gains passage on the USS Pasteur, which is under the
command of his now ex-wife, Dr. Beverly Picard, whom he convinces to
find the anomaly.
In
the past, despite having the Enterprise 's mission to Farpoint
Station cancelled by Starfleet to investigate the anomaly, Picard
insists on continuing, believing the impending encounter with Q to be
more important. After reaching the place where he had first
encountered the Q in the form of a net near Farpoint Station and
finding nothing there, Picard enters his ready room, only to find
himself once again in Q's courtroom. Q reveals that the trial
started seven years ago never concluded, and the current situation is
humanity's last chance to prove themselves to the Q Continuum, but
secretly reveals that he himself is the cause of Picard's time
jumping. Q challenges Picard to solve the mystery of the anomaly,
cryptically stating that Picard will destroy humanity.
Seeing
this release makes me really want to purchase the whole series on
Blu-ray - the sound and picture quality are really out of sight.
Preserved in 1080p high definition and captured in its original
4:3/1.33 X 1 aspect ratio transfer, great lengths have been made to
really clean up the look of the show for the format. The sound is a
stunning, lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track with audio
selections in English, Stereo Surround, and German Stereo.

in all, this is a great episode and an exceptional release by CBS
that is a must own for Star Trek fans and even the casual Sci-fi
viewer. Recommended!
