Mama's Family: The Complete Sixth Season (1989 - 1990/Time Life/Star Vista DVDs)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: B Episodes: B+

Mama's Family lives on DVD in this hilarious compilation of the Sixth Season on DVD from Star Vista! Capturing the hilarious antics of Mama Harper and the Harper Family and starring Vicki Lawrence (credited as Vicki Lawrence Schultz here), Ken Berry as Vent, Dorothy Lyman as Naomi, Beverly Archer as Iola, and Allan Kayser as Bubba in this season, which aired between 1989 - 1990 and was the last season of the show.

A spin off of the Carol Burnett Show, Mama's Family continues to be relevant and is vastly superior in terms of comedic timing than many shows on television nowadays.

Guest Stars in this season include Liz Torres, Anne Haney, Robert Mandan, Stacey Q and more!

Some highlight episodes include Mama's Medicine Show where after reading about how much it costs to raise a child, Vint and Naomi decide to start a business selling bottles of Mama's mother-in-law's "miracle tonic", Tri-State's Most Wanted where Mama is attracted to actor Leslie Lemoyne, until she sees him on Tri-State's Most Wanted (the local version of America's Most Wanted), and believes that he is the infamous widow waster. Now Hear This where an intercom is installed in the Harper House and causes all sorts of problems and An Affair To Forget where Mama suspects that Vint is having an affair with his new trainee Heather, so she and Iola go to his workplace to investigate.

The show looks great on DVD and is captured in standard definition with a 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio and a lossy 2.0 Dolby Digital track that improves upon the original broadcast.

Extras include Interviews with the Producers, Writers, Vicki Lawrence, and the Costume Designer of the show.

I never get tired of watching this show and feel like its charm will never fade. It's great that this show now gets a second life on DVD so that fans like myself can see the seasons in their entirety. Recommended!
