Jim
Carrey and Jeff Daniels are reunited on the big screen once again as
Harry and Lloyd in the hilarious follow up to their 1990s cult
classic, yet huge hit Dumb
and Dumber.
After that horrible prequel, When
Harry Met Lloyd,
that made in the early 2000s, this film is a true sequel to the
original Farrelly Brothers film (with the duo back in the
writing/directing chair) and revisits some favorite characters from
the original film while delivering relentless one-liners and puns
that made me chuckle.
The
film was panned by critics mainly because it is just a really dumb
movie and it recycles the narrative of the first with slight
moderation as most sequels do. If you enjoy fart jokes, pranks, and
insane antics then this adolescent humor of a comedy may be for you.
Being a huge fan of the original film, I enjoyed this one more than I
expected I would. It doesn't take itself too seriously and is just a
really fun time.
After
he faked a mental illness for twenty years in a mental ward, Lloyd
meets up again with Harry - who has some disturbing news that he
needs a new kidney. After revisiting Harry's Foster Parents he finds
a postcard from an old flame that tells him that he's going to be a
father - postmarked from several decades earlier. After they track
down Freda Feltcher, to whom sent them the letter (and assumed 'baby
mama' to Harry) - Harry and Lloyd take off on another road trip
adventure that pits them right in the middle of another murderous
plot (this time involving Harry's Daughter and her genius Scientist
Adopted Father) and reunite them with their classic Dog-like
Mini-Van. Lloyd falls for Harry's Daughter after seeing her
photograph but is she really who she appears to be?
Presented
in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and
a lush, lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track - the home
presentation here leaves little to be desired. Universal always does
a great job with their Blu-ray transfers and this one is no
exception!
The
anamorphically enhanced DVD with lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is
decent, but not as fun as watching it on Blu-ray.
The
hilarious extras on this release sports Blu-ray exclusive features
including an Alternate
Opening, Deleted and Extended Scenes, Gag Reel,
and a featurette called
What's so Smart About Dumb And Dumber To? There
is also a DVD bonus feature entitled
That's Awesome - The Story of Dumb and Dumber To.
If
you love the original and are a fan of gross-out humor and silliness,
then this is definitely a film I suggest you check out!
