Horrible Bosses 2: Extended Cut (2014/Warner Blu-ray w/DVD)

Picture: B+/B- Sound: B+/B- Extras: B Film: B-

New Crime. Same Tools.

Horrible Bosses 2 boasts an impressive cast and some funny R-rated moments but ultimately falls short of an original story and a predictable third act. Your love for the film will fall in line mainly with your feelings on the three leading men: Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis. Their chemistry together onscreen works pretty well and almost mimics a more modern day take on Abbott and Costello (only with three guys instead of two) - one being the straight shooter, another being the complete goofball, and the third somewhere in the middle.

The film also stars Jennifer Aniston, Chris Pine, Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx, and a brief cameo by Kevin Spacey. This Blu-ray version contains both the theatrical and extended cuts of the film, which is a difference of eight minutes of total screen time.

Dale, Kurt and Nick (Bateman, Day, Sudeikis) decide to start their own business and be their own bosses because they have had enough bad ones. They have a new invention called 'The Shower Buddy' and its sure to be a hit but things don't go as planned because of a slick investor (Waltz), prompting the trio to pull off a harebrained and misguided kidnapping scheme hatched by the investor's money hungry son (Chris Pine). The guys get into more and more trouble as the scheme progresses, causing them to confine in several other crazy characters along the way.

Sound and Picture on the disc is pretty consistent throughout with a 1080p high definition transfer and a lossless DTS-HD Master Audio (MA) 5.1 audio track that is a little front speaker-heavy, but pretty solid throughout. There's also a French, Spanish and Portuguese lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital tracks on the disc as well.

The set also comes with a DVD version of the film that is lighter on extras and is presented in standard definition with a 16 X 9 anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track. The DVD is of a high standard for the format but not nearly as sharp as the Blu-ray quality, as expected.

Here are some pretty hilarious bonus features on the disc including:

Endless Laughter Guaranteed!

Off the Cuff: One-Liners You Didn't See

Let the Sexual Healing Begin

Who Invented the Shower Buddy?

Nick Kurt Dale INC: Employee Testimonials

It's the Shower Buddy Infomercial

High Speed Crash Course

Horrible Bosses 2 is a pretty funny watch and even though it has a familiar story, still has enough solid laughs to make it recommendable.
