Longmire: The Complete Third Season (2014/Warner Archive Blu-ray + Warner DVD Sets)

Picture: B/B- Sound: B/C Extras: C Episodes: C

PLEASE NOTE: The Longmire Blu-ray version (versus DVD, being issued everywhere) is now only available from Warner Bros. through their Warner Archive series and can be ordered from the link below.

Sheriff Walt Longmire and his deputies Vic and Branch are in for a storm murders and mysteries. Walt's best friend Henry was framed for a murder he didn't commit. As they search for clues, evidence and witnesses to prove Henry's innocence, they seem to disappear as soon as they find them. Branch goes off the deep end when he is shot by a dead man and he is determined to prove this 'White Warrior' is real, but things start getting complicated when Walt discovers Henry's murder case may have been a cover up to his own wife's murder's death in Longmire: The Complete Third Season (2014).

Longmire is a man of the law, but unfortunately, his extent of the law is as only the range of his rifle and his truck. He is backed up by his deputies Vic and Branch, Vic is a former officer with a tendency to becoming involved with married men, her boss, and co-workers. Branch is a loose canon, while he IS willing to serve justice and solve the murders he would do anything to solve the mystery, including torture. Together, they face corrupt business men, keeping the peace between the 'Indians' and rogues.

This was a modern Western, while there is law and order, people often forget to ask who is the law for, and who does it apply to? Most men of the law only protect their own 'people', and discriminate those who they feel are different. The series hinges on the character Walt because he is the only one who see past race, treat the Indians fairly and couldn't be bought by the corrupt or the rich like everyone else. And in a land where law as cheap as paper, sometime you just have to set aside the laws and take it into your own hands.

After being minimally impressed with the performance of the show on DVD, the 1080p 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition presentation of the episodes on the Warner Archive-exclusive Blu-ray set of the show really delivers a much richer, more detailed image throughout, even when the picture goes for monochromatic styles. The anamorphically-enhanced DVD is not as good, of course, but a tad better than the previous DVD seasons.

The Warner Archive-exclusive Blu-ray set also offers the shows sound in lossless presentations via DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 lossless mixes that show just how much is lost on all three DVD seasons of the show in lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 versions, sounding weaker than it should this time around for whatever reason. This is why serious fans should go out of their way for the Blu-ray set.

The only extra in both sets are the featurette Longmire: Ghost in the Storm, but you can read about the previous two seasons elsewhere om this site.
