The
age old tale of the Prodigal Son... Sean never believed in it. The
world is his oyster and Sean goes off to college, away from his
parents, freedom from the rules, staying up late, partying and
drinking. Promising as long as he gets, his parents will provide for
him, but when he is challenged by his professor to his mind, he
agrees to disagree that life should not be bound or measured by
rules, but especially to him in Allan Spiers' Confessions Of A
Prodigal Son (2014).
Sean
is your typical charming American kid off to college, tired of his
parent's (Kevin Sorbo) rules he want to be free of them and asks for
his college tuition up front. While he is potentially smart, he
lazy, always arrives late to class and he believes he can BS his way
into an easy A and charm himself into any girl's pants. He stays up
late drinking and spends money like water on his friends and
partying... he begins his spiral down the path of destruction as he
is caught vandalizing, thrown out of school, crashes his car and
loses all his money.
This
was a modern retelling of the prodigal son, which makes you think
...is that what college really is now? A place for kids to spend and
waste money (and does it apply to girls too)? What is really amazing
is people tell you college is fun, freedom, they always seem to
forget there is also a responsibility. The film gives it an
unrealistic ending and all he has to do is believe in Jesus and
everything is forgiven/re-stored.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is soft and has motion blur
issues throughout, while the lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is very
weak, poorly recorded, even has location audio issues and is way too
much in the center channel. The only extra is a making of the film
clip.
