Slam Dunk: Season 1, Vol. 1 (1993/Flatiron/Cinedigm DVD)

Picture: C Sound: C- Extras: D Episodes: C+

Welcome to Shohoku High where the baskets are high and the dreams even higher. Hanamichi Sakuragi is a high school delinquent who's joined the basketball team to impress the girl of his dreams, Haruko. Together they train heart, body and soul to become the perfect team to reach the national championships in the animated series Slam Dunk: Season 1, Vol. 1 (1993).

Sakuragi is high school punk who's in love with Haruko, but unfortunately for him she love with basketball, so he does the next best thing ...he joins basketball. And on top of that, her brother is the captain of basketball team and she also has a one sided crush on miracle rookie freshman Rukawa. Fortunately, Sakuragi has the potential to become a great player... now if he can only get along with the team.

This anime was a blast from the past, of a time when being 'sports heroes' were consider cool and popular. If you like the anime, then you would LOVE the books. The entire series is about basketball rivals, relationships, teamwork and good sportsmanship with a bit of comedy and romance mixed in.

The 1.33 X 1 image is consistent color-wise, but is limited in detail, while the lossy English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track is forward and harsh throughout. Another complaint is that they dub over the original voice tracks without offering the original language track as well. There are no extras.
