The Squeeze (2015/Arc DVD)

Picture: C Sound: C Extras: D Film: C+

Augie (Jeremy Sumpter) is a young golf prodigy, struggling to support for his mother and sister. After meeting big time gambler Riverboat (Christopher McDonald), Riverboat sees Augie's golden golf skills and sees him as his next big meal ticket. As they work their way up to the big leagues, Riverboat sets up Augie in a million dollar match with a L.A. mobster who threatens to kill Augie if he doesn't lose. And when Riverboat finds out, he threatens to kill Augie if hie doesn't win in Terry Jastrow's The Squeeze (2015).

Augie love golf, loves his family, and loves playing town golf (where he uses the entire town as his golf course). As a good Christian, he first resists gambling because it is the work of the devil, but when thing get financially difficult for him he takes up Riverboat offer and learns how to make easy money. His girlfriend warns him that he is following the path of the devil, as he journeys to Sin City he learns that he is betting more than just money on the line, but his life as well.

Based on an actual story, it is the story of golf, gambling and God. When the main character gets in over his head, he must find a way to swindle them before they swindle him. Jillian Murray and Michael Nouri also star.

The anamorphically enhanced 2.35 X 1 image is shot with a RED EPIC 5K HD camera, but it is oddly soft here, as is the lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. This could use a Blu-ray release and some extras, which this copy has none if.
