Knights Of Sidonia: Complete Collection - Season 1 (2014/Sentai Filmworks Blu-ray)

Picture: B+ Sound: A Extras: C Episodes: A-

In the future, the human race survives on the asteroid space ship Sidonia, hunted down though-out the universe by aliens known only as the Gauna. In order to survive humankind has evolved through cloning, genetic manipulation and even created a even a 3rd gender. Over the last century, the Sidonia has been peaceful, but once more the Gauna has found them. For Nagate Tanikaze, he has grown up in the bowls of the Sidonia without any genetic manipulation he learns what it means to become a Knight of Sidonia in the Complete Collection: Season One.

A 1,000 years after Earth was destroyed by the Gauna, the remnants of humanity survive in the asteroid spaceship Sidonia searching for a new home. In order to compensate for the lack of food, people genetically altered and can undergo photosynthesis, and reproduction is done through cloning. The only one who hasn't been manipulated is Nagate, hidden away by his 'grandfather', he has been the only one able to defeat the Gauna and now he protects the people of Sidonia. But then Sidonia holds some secrets of the past, secretly controlled by the Immortal Council.

While this isn't the coolest animation, the story more than makes up for it. It is about the story of the survival of humanity and the behavior of human instinct when faced with death and mankind's eternal desire for immortality. It raises some philosophical questions of what is human, it is only in the worst of times can a human truly show either the best or worst of mankind.

The 1080p 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image may be on the soft side, but that is the style and it is 100% correct and accurate on every single episode, while we also get a rare, lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 mix from Sentai for one of their TV series Blu-ray releases and it is some of the best sound we have ever encountered on any of their releases. Extras include three fearurettes, clean opening & closing animations and trailers.
