One Week Friends: Complete Collection (2014/Sentai Blu-ray)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: C Episodes: B-

Yuki Hase is in love with Kaori Fujimiya, but Fujimiya has a secret, she can only remember friends for one week and then forget them the next. Ever since a certain incident Fujimiya has been avoiding making friends, because making friends and then forgetting them would be too painful for her afterwards. Hase-kun and his friends Shogo and Yamagishi believe otherwise and vow to be Fujimaya's friend no matter what and help her remember the memories they create together in One Week Friends: Complete Collection (2014).

When Hase learns of Fujimiya's condition, every week he asks her if he can be friends with her. Fujimiya in turn keeps a journal of each week and reads about their past week together. They are soon joined by their friends Shogo and Yamagishi help Fujimiya rediscover the value of friendship. Eventually Hase discovers her memories aren't truly gone and learns the trauma of her past and helps her face them.

This was your typical high school drama mixed with girl with amnesia. It seems like the ultimate trauma/drama is about memories or lack there of, because if we forget who we are then who or what are we? Japanese seem to love couples in a bittersweet romance in where one forgets their memories and the other lives to keep those memories alive. (On the plus side if you forget your memories there can be a lot of 'first times').

The 1080p 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition image looks great throughout each episode, while the lossless Japanese DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 2.0 Stereo is clear, warm, well-recorded and has Pro Logic-like surrounds. Extras include Kaori's Journal Shorts, promos, clean opening and closing animations and trailers.
