Awaken (2015/Arc DVD)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: D Film: C-

The main ingredient to any good B movie are of course B movies actors. Awaken, as cheesy as a title as that is, surely has plenty of names that you haven't heard in a while. Jason London, Edward Furlong, Darryl Hannah, and Vinnie Jones to name a few along with the actress/writer Natalie Burn who was in the latest Expendables film and you have a B-movie soup ready to be boiled.

There isn't one original thing about this film in terms of story - it's as if someone watched Predators and King Kong with a splash of The Expendables and made it into a horror film. Here's the official plot summary: Billie Kope is searching for her sister who disappeared in Mexico, awakens on a remote island with no memory of her abduction. She teams up with a group of survivors, where her skills in Russian Special Forces combat help them resist sinister black operations soldiers who hunt them down and abduct them for reasons unknown. For Billie, the mystery of the island is ultimately connected to the fate of her missing sister and one which when uncovered, will bring violence down on not only the island but the perpetrators of this bizarre and diabolical scheme in continual need of fresh victims to awaken.

The standard definition transfer is fine for DVD in anamorphic 16 X 9 widescreen and a lossy Dolby Digital track mastered in 5.1 surround sound. There are optional subs on the disc as well.

No extras on the disc.
