What
if Hell was like The Office only with blood and rapture?
From
the creators of Squidbillies and Aqua Teen Hunger Force,
Your Pretty Face Is Going To
Hell: Season One
(2013) is a sometimes-funny show that appears on
Adult Swim, the only place it could possibly exist
aside from maybe Comedy Central. It is ridiculous and
extremely low budgeted with terrible green screen mattes and bad
makeup but I feel that cheesy look is part of the point much like Tim
and Eric Show. There are some pretty funny bits in the show,
like a calendar that has Monday listed as every day, some funny sight
gags, an episode where a musical is made to honor Satan (who is
exceptionally well played Satan by veteran actor Matt Servitto), and
a competition over a glass of ice water.
The
show is a live-action workplace comedy about Gary, an associate
demon, as he attempts to capture souls on earth in order to climb the
corporate ladder of the underworld. Gary hopes to advance in Hell,
but he may be too stupid, lazy and kind-hearted to realize his dreams
of promotion. Meanwhile, Gary's intern Claude is more talented, more
devious and will do whatever it takes to impress Satan.
The
six episode season features the episodes Welcome
to Hell, Bone Garden, Take Life By The Horns,
Schmickler 83, Devil in the Details, and People In
Hell Want Ice Water.
The
show is presented in standard definition with an anamorphic 16 X
9/1.78 X 1 widescreen transfer and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track
which has become DVD standard for new releases. Being that it is a
low budgeted show, I don't feel the desire for a Blu-ray of this one
really drawing many people in.
Extras
include Deleted
Scenes, Commentaries, an Original Short , Behind the Scenes, and
Auditions.
At
times humorous but not 'classic' by any sense, Your Pretty Face Is
Going To Hell is typical Adult Swim/college humor that will
either charm or offend you. I wouldn't want to watch it with a bunch
of right wing Christians but if you find religious humor funny, then
this may be worth a spin.
