The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989/Fox/Twilight Time Limited Edition Blu-ray)

PLEASE NOTE: This Blu-ray is now only available from our friends at Twilight Time, is limited to only 3,000 copies and can be ordered while supplies last from the link below.

The Fabulous Baker Boys is an interesting mix of music and romance with a narrative that is pretty predictable. Starring Jeff Bridges, Beau Bridges, and Michelle Pfieffer giving all star performances - they really shine well on the screen together. On Blu-ray for the first time thanks to the great Twilight Time label, this limited edition is packed with extras and boasts a crystal clear transfer and sound mix.

Frank and Jack Baker (both Bridges brothers) are professional musicians who play small clubs. They play schmaltzy music and have never needed a day job. Times are changing and dates are becoming more difficult to get so they interview female singers. They finally decide on Susie Diamond, a former 'escort' who needs some refinement, but the act begins to take off again. (remind you a little bit of the plot to Pretty Woman?) While the act is now successful, both Frank and Jack have problems with their life on the road. Susie becomes the agent that makes them re-evaluate where they are going, and how honest they have been with each other.

Pfieffer has never looked better on screen and the chemistry between the Bridges brothers sells under the direction of Steve Kloves and the masterful imagery of Michael Ballhaus (both have commentaries on the disc), that while the narrative may be lacking, the music and cinematic quality of the film is sure to entertain.

Presented in 1080p digital High Definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and an English 2.0 DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) Stereo track with Pro Logic-like surrounds, this digital presentation could be the best this film has ever looked or sounded except for perhaps seeing it on a deluxe 35mm film print. Subtitles are also on the disc in English SDH.

Extras include an Isolated Music and Effects Track, Audio Commentary with Director Steve Kloves & Film Historians Julie Kirgo and Nick Redman, an additional commentary by Director of Photography Michael Ballhaus, Deleted Scenes, and the original Theatrical Trailer. There's also a collectible insert booklet that is always appreciated by Twilight Time with another essay by Kirgo.

If you're a fan of the film, then this limited edition disc is one that you will not miss. If you are seeing it for the first time and are a fan of musical/romance, then this is right up your alley.
