The Man From U.N.C.L.E.: The Complete First Season (1964 - 1965/Warner DVD Set)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: D Episodes: B

In the wake of the new film being released, the debut season of the classic television show The Man From U.N.C.L.E finds it way onto DVD with this highly collectible season one box set. Spanning an impressive ten discs, all 29 episodes are included and are a must for fans of classic television! The critically-acclaimed spy spoof television series features Robert Vaughn, David McCallum, Leo G. Carroll and many guest stars in each episode like William Shatner & Leonard Nimoy and was a landmark in the Spy television genre that paved the way for Mission Impossible and other great shows. As a Star Trek fan, it was very cool for me to see Shatner and Nimoy in a different light on this show as well! The special effects are fun and some of the plots featuring everything from fear gas to escaping cheetahs that will keep you on your toes the whole time!

Disc One features the episodes The Vulcan Affair, The Iowa-Scuba Affair, The Quadripartite Affair.

Disc Two features The Shark Affair, The Deadly Games Affair, The Green Opal Affair.

Disc Three features The Giuoco Piano Affair, The Double Affair, and The Project Strigas Affair.

Disc Four features The Finny Foot Affair, The Neptune Affair and The Dove Affair.

Disc Five has The King of Knaves Affair, The Terbuf Affair, and The Deadly Decoy Affair.

Disc Six features The Fiddlesticks Affair, The Yellow Scarf Affair, and The Mad, Mad Tea Party Affair.

Disc Seven has the episodes The Secret Sceptre Affair, The Bow-Wow Affair and The Four-Steps Affair.

Disc Eight features The See-Paris-And-Die Affair, The Brain-Killer Affair, and The Hong Kong Shilling Affair.

Disc Nine features The Never-Never Affair, The Love Affair, and The Gazebo in the Maze Affair.

Finally, Disc Ten has the episodes The Girls of Nazarene Affair, and The Odd Man Affair.

Featuring great performances and interesting writing, the show holds up well and remains to be a very cool watch. I personally love watching classic television shows, as you will see from my recent review of Batman: The Original Series (seen elsewhere on this site) and other classic programs. Though not on Blu-ray disc yet, the show has been remastered and looks and sounds as good as the DVD format will allow.

Presented in standard definition with a 1.33:1 full frame aspect ratio and a lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 track. No extras on this release, but three more seasons are ahead.

Now that the new film is being released, this is a great time to dig back into the old series for the first time or to revisit it. Thanks to Warner, we have a nice set here that features the episodes in chronological order and without commercials to get the best experience possible. Recommended.
