The Greek Collection: Volumes 1 & 2: Tango of Perversion (1974) + The Wife Killer... (1976/Mondo Macabro DVDs)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: C+ Films: C

The 1974 Greek cult classic, Tango of Perversion, is now on DVD along with The Wife Killer... now available in cool packaging and a new transfer thanks to Mondo Macabro. If you are a fan of Jess Franco films or sleaze, then I highly suggest you check out these two films. They are full of sex, nudity, perversion, violence, and everything that a cult movie fan craves!

The Tango Club is the place for Swingers... the Moulin Rogue of 1974 sleaze town. A group of swingers including a lesbian named Rosita seduces a young woman named Joanna by giving her dope. Stathis, Joanna's boyfriend, catches the two women together and immediately explodes, killing Rosita. This brutal killing happens in a different place - the house of Joachim who is a rich playboy who ends up getting in on with Rosita's corpse and filming Stathis having sexual acts with other women in his club. Things get messy and weird in this offbeat C grade movie.

Tango of Perversion is presented in standard definition in a brand new transfer restored from the original film's negative. Sporting a full-screen anamorphic aspect ratio of 1.37:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono track, which sounds about as good as the film can be for the DVD format and the film's age. There are also subtitles in Greek and English on the disc.

Extras include an Uncut Version of the film, Trailers, Interviews with the Cast and Crew, Extensive Production Notes, Newly Created Optional Subtitles, and previews for other Mando Macabro films.

The Wife Killer... (1976) is an exceptional Giallo thriller from the 1970s and aside from having a black gloved killer, the film is an intense and provocative study of a demented male psyche. If you are a fan of Giallo or some of the Italian slashers by Dario Argento, then I would definitely suggest checking this film out. This is the first time that the film has been available uncut in the states so this is definitely the release hardcore horror fans will want.

The film follows the plot of a marriage gone wrong when a broke playboy named Captain Jim is under the tense glare of his older rich wife, Helen. She's given him everything under the sun, including a yacht with his name on it, but that's not enough. Committing adultery on the side, Jim wants to marry his lover named Laura and soon pays a psychopath to kill his wife. The only problem is that the Psychopath has his own agenda and has created a fail-safe plan to be the one on top of his scheme...

Much like Tango Perversion, this film has been digitally restored in a new transfer from the original film negative in a Full Frame 1.37 X 1 aspect ratio and a lossy 2.0 Dolby Mono track. Also on the disc are subtitles in Greek and English.

Extras here include Extensive Production Notes, an Interview with the Producer, a cool Documentary on Greek Cult Cinema, trailers, and other previews for releases by Mondo Macabro.
