Shelby: A Magical Holiday Tail (2014/Anchor Bay DVD)

Picture: C Sound: C Extras: D Film: C+

In Brian K. Roberts' Shelby: A Magical Holiday Tail (2014), Shelby is a runaway dog on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately he wants to be adopted by a spoiled rich kid Jake for all the wrong reasons. So he decides to runaway (again) and he meets Jake and his family. Can Jake find a magic trick to help save him and find him a home? You see, Shelby is a runaway dog Houdini, he can escape from anywhere. Until he finally meets Jake who wants him to be his partner for his magic show, but unfortunately, his mom has a phobia of dogs, his family hates dogs and Doug the dog catcher is hot behind his tail.

Can Jake and his grandfather find some Christmas magic (and a crazy plan) to help change their mind and hearts? This was another dog Christmas movie, with the dog narrating most of the story and makes all the usual dog jokes, but in the end, it was about Christmas spirit and giving your kid a dog is the best present of all (and getting your mom to get over it). Chevy Chase, Tom Arnold & Rob Schneider also star.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 picture and lossy Dolby Digital sound are weak & average, then we get no extras. Oh well...
