The Final Girls (2015/Sony Blu-ray)

Picture: B+ Sound: B+ Extras: B Film: B

Todd Strauss-Schulson's The Final Girls (2015) is great tribute to '80s slasher flicks and starts with a great retro trailer of Camp Bloodbath, a low budget '80s slasher flick in the vein of the original Friday The 13th. The story picks up twenty years later when Max's mother (played by Watchmen star Malin Ackerman - a star of Camp Bloodbath) gets killed in a car accident.

Three years later, Max, recently goes to see a screening of Camp Bloodbath with some of her friends against her will. Soon, Max and her friends find themselves in the world of the film itself, where they must apply their knowledge of horror tropes to survive and defeat the masked menace.

The film is shot very well and is pretty solid all around with tributes to '80s classics, some great gore scenes, and all in all a fun watch for fans of the genre. The film stars a cast of up and comers including Taissa Farmiga, Alexander Ludwig, Nina Dobrev, Alia Shawkat, Thomas Middleditch, Adam Devine, Tory N. Thompson, and Angela Trimbur.

Final Girls is presented in 1080p high definition with a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and a strong, lossless DTS-HD MA (Master Audio) 5.1 track that is stunning as per usual for Sony. Additional language tracks are on the disc in French, Portuguese, Thai, and Spanish.
