An En Vogue Christmas (2015/Lionsgate DVD)

Picture: B Sound: B Extras: D Telefilm: B-

Kendall has always been a daddy's little girl and has vowed to keep the family Opera House open. After her father's death and 10 years later the Opera house is in danger of being foreclosed. Kendall's only way to save the Opera house is to somehow bring back the vocal group En Vogue for a Christmas benefit concert, but will she and the girls have be in time to perform a Christmas miracle and save the Opera House they love?

An En Vogue Christmas (2015) takes place 10+ years after En Vogue have split up (skipping how one member had left before that). Kendall has grown up to become a talent manager for stars. When her father's club the Opera House is about to close, she must find the former Divas and they must set aside their past for one last performance. As Kendall gathers the girls, they learn the truth of what happen to them, her father, and the money. What they believed was their manager, 'Uncle Marty', lost the profits to gambling debts, but in truth it was Kendall's father who had the gambling addiction and 'Uncle Marty' took the blame for it. He took the blame to protect Kendall's father's reputation and then stole the money to help put Kendall through college after her father's death.

There is nothing quite like Christmas than a story about a child, helping their dreams, forgiveness and bring the family together. En Vogue is an all female African-American girl band, their songs are a mix of pop dance and soul music. While their outfits are something a mother would slap their daughter if she was caught in it, their music, their attitude is more about being an independent free-thinking black woman with strong family ties and Christian values. There are no extras, but the anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image and lossy Dolby Digital sound are as good as this one will ever play in this format.
