Close Range (2015/XLrator DVD)

Picture: B- Sound: B- Extras: D Film: C

Close Range (2015) is a new Scott Adkins action film that is nicely shot and fast paced with sharp direction by Isaac Florentine that delivers on the action front if you're a fan of films like Transporter or Crank as there are several scenes where logic is avoided and movie-like action takes over.

In order to protect his sister and young niece, Colton MacReady, a rogue soldier-turned-outlaw, is forced to battle against a corrupt sheriff and a dangerous drug cartel.

The low budget film is shot pretty well and has a pretty entertaining final sequence with scenes where Adkins is shooting through walls and battling bad guys in a closet, all while both of them are armed and shooting. Some of the supporting actors in the film are so-so, but that's to be expected.

Presented in standard definition with a widescreen anamorphic aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the film looks and sounds good on DVD but could benefit to a high def update for certain. The only extra is a theatrical trailer.

If you're lucking for a film to munch some popcorn to and turn your brain off, Close Range is a nice little B-Movie with some cool action. It was definitely better than I expected.
