The
DVD, The Remarkable Rise & Tragic Fall Of Lynyrd Skynyrd: Gone
With The Wind, is for
the real diehard fans. It is not a concert DVD, which means that
there are not a whole lot of full length songs being seen here.
However, it does give a well versed depiction of the band and their
struggles and is a good documentary that covers the entire history
with former contributors, such as Ed King, the guitar player that
left the band before the crash, Bob Burns the original drummer, and
Artimus Pyle. It uses some nice archived footage any fan will enjoy.
A
lot of it composed of interviews from the former members mentioned
above, but also the tour manager and behind the music or
''Freebird''. Again, for a fan it is a good DVD, but do not expect
to see much from other members.
The
documentary uses a mixture of hardly ever seen film, new and archive
interviews, contributions from an esteemed panel of members past and
present as well as those closest to the group, plus location shoots,
rare photographs, news reports and the most upsetting although
fascinating first-hand description of the fateful 1977 plane crash
which bought an end to the original line-up.
Rise
is presented in standard definition widescreen 16 X 9 with an aspect
ratio of 1.33:1. The audio is a lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
soundmix and sounds great when they show us some of the great songs
by the group, as well as, decent during some of the interviews.
There
are no extras on the DVD.
