Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance (2016/Cinema Epoch Blu-ray w/DVD)

Picture: C+/C Sound: C- Extras: A Film: C+

After 25 years, Detective Frank Washington finds himself suddenly in the middle of a Yakuza turf war. His only choice is to find his former partner Joe Marshall, the sword wielding samurai cop. Ever since Joe Marshall's wife was killed in a violent crime, he has given up the sword and badge and live the Buddhist monk life. When his old partner comes looking for him (along with a few ninjas and assassins) he is forced to pick up his blade once more in Gregory Hatanaka's Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance (2016).

This was your typical 'white washed guy wants to be the Samurai/ninja' narrative with very loose connections to the older cult film, more like white-samurai-wannabe with a black Shaft-wannabe and hot naked/scantily clad chicks (it's only redeeming value). It is a total epic fail unless you want to watch it as comedy, it would of been one of those films that Mystery Science Theater 3000 would of made fun of. Hmmm. Bai Ling, Mark Karedas, Mark Frazier and Kayden Kross star.

The 1080p 2.35 X 1 digital High Definition image transfer is a weak digital shoot that looks cheap, intended or not, but not good and the anamorphically enhanced DVD version is worse and weaker. The lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo on both versions of the film disappoints with underwhelming fidelity and range, sounding no better than the older 1989 film! Where's the lossless mix?

Extras include commentaries, stills gallery, deleted scenes, behind the scenes and trailer, but you can read more about the original film at this link...
