The Great Hypnotist (2014/Well Go USA DVD)

Picture: B- Sound: C Extras: D Film: B+

Dr. Xu Ruining uses hypnosis to treat his patients, but he meets his match when he meets Miss Ren who claims she can see and talk with the dead. While all other doctors had given up on her and believe she is a fraud, but what happens if what she said is true? As Dr. Xu dives deeper into her hypnosis, he begins to discover more than he knows and that she HAS a hidden secret... but what if it IS from beyond the grave ...and the secret from his own past that he had thought buried in Leste Chen's The Great Hypnotist (2014).

Xu is an accomplished psychologist, with the successful use of hypnosis he has successfully treated all his patients. Using hypnosis, he is able to return patients to face their past trauma and he is able to become anyone from the patient's past. However, hypnosis's flaw and weakness is if the person becomes aware of hypnosis, the procedure fails. Miss Ren turns out also to be a Doctor, but she isn't the patient, she is the doctor treating Dr. Xu. Problem with Dr. Xu is that he knows too much on how to manipulate the psychology for it to work on him and only person he can't cure ...is himself.

This movie was like an Ocean's Eleven for psychology, all the clues and facts were there and shown, but the truth was not what it appeared to be. I have seen Xu Zheng movies before and this is the first one that I have seen that isn't comedy, guess Xu Zheng either got tied of them or wants to try something different.

The anamorphically enhanced 2.35 X 1 image is not bad for the format, but the lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is a very problematic mixdown from the original Dolby Atmos 11.1 theatrical film sound. Hope we see this one on Blu-ray. Extras include trailers.
