Of Re-Animator (1990/Arrow Blu-ray)

of my favorite horror sequels, which I feel outdoes the original
Stuart Gordon cult classic, is the 1990 Brian Yunza film Bride of
Re-Animator. From the mind of acclaimed novelistic H.P.
Lovecraft, the film reunites us with the insane Doctor Herbert West
(played again by Jeffery Combs) who has bigger plans for his
mysterious green-glowing formula that brings the dead back to life.
Also starring in the cult classic sequel are Bruce Abbott, David
Gale, Mel Stewart, Kathleen Kinmont, Claude Earl Jones, and the
gorgeous Fabiana Udenio.
has done a great job here, restoring and transferring the film to 2K
High Definition and released both this rated, plus an Unrated 3-Disc
Blu-ray edition which we've chosen to make our cover image, that
bring the film to life (ha) like never before. Perfectly improving
upon what made the first film (reviewed elsewhere on this site) work
and shadowing many events and themes from the horror classic Bride
of Frankenstein (1935), this film will gross you out and make you
laugh at the same time just like the original.
has been eight months since the bloody massacre at Miskatonic Medical
School. Unperturbed by the disastrous outcome of his previous
meddling with the dead, Dr West (Combs) continues his research into
the phenomenon of re-animation; only this time, he plans to create
life - starting with the heart of his lab assistant Dan's dearly
deceased, Meg Halsey. Surely nothing could go wrong?
in 1080p 1.78 X 1 digital High Definition with nice color and detail
from that new 2K HD transfer as mentioned and a sharp, uncompressed
PCM 2.0 Stereo track to match, the film really looks and sounds
better than ever, especially if you haven't seen it in a really good
film print before as few have. The only extra for this one disc
rated release is a Behind The Scenes Reel. However, the
three-disc edition also available from Arrow is packed full of extras
and different version of the film, but is a limited edition with only
5,000 copies out there, so get that one while you can. Otherwise,
there's always this version.
